Founded by Natalie Vaz, Natventure Tours offers immersive experiences that go beyond traditional fishing trips. Guests can explore Alaska’s pristine wilderness through fly fishing, spin fishing, river kayaking, sea kayaking, and pack rafting—creating unforgettable memories in the heart of Icy Strait.
As a teenager in Gustavus, Natalie led fishing trips with nothing more than a few fishing poles and her trusty bicycle, meeting travelers at the river with enthusiasm and a genuine love for the outdoors. A conversation with her mentor, Mike Halbert, sparked the idea that this passion could be more than just a hobby—it could be a business.
Inspired by that encouragement, Natalie launched her first venture, Salmon River Sportfishing, during her senior year of high school. Over the years, what started as small, local trips steadily grew, attracting hundreds of clients eager to experience Alaska’s wild beauty. As demand increased, so did the complexities of running a business. Natalie faced decisions around business structure, branding, and financial management—areas that required expertise beyond her outdoor skills. The sudden impact of the 2020 travel industry shutdown added another layer of uncertainty, forcing her to adapt quickly to preserve her growing enterprise.
Seeking guidance, Natalie partnered with the Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC), where advisors provided expert support, including:
- Rebranding from Salmon River Sportfishing to Natventure Tours.
- Establishing her business as an LLC to ensure legal protection and credibility.
- Navigating relief programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped sustain her business during uncertain times.
This partnership equipped Natalie with the tools to manage growth confidently while maintaining the authenticity that defines her brand.
Natventure Tours has earned a stellar reputation, underscored by its Orvis endorsement—a prestigious recognition awarded to only a select group of guides worldwide. This distinction reflects the company’s commitment to excellence in outdoor adventures.
Looking ahead to 2025, Natalie is launching an all-inclusive five-day fishing and bear-viewing experience in Hoonah, complete with lodging and meals. This new offering reflects both the evolution of Natventure Tours and Natalie’s dedication to providing immersive, world-class adventures.
