Buying and Selling Businesses

The Alaska SBDC assists people on their journey to buy or sell an existing business. An Alaska SBDC Business Advisor can share information on businesses for sale, best practices, preparation items, and research. Please note that Alaska SBDC is not a brokerage and Business Advisors are not brokers.

How can your Alaska SBDC Business Advisor help you navigate the process?

If you are a Buyer

Your Advisor can help you understand the steps, timing, and expectations of the Seller. Advisors can also assist with due diligence information, review and explain the financial statements and tax returns from a managerial accounting perspective, introduce business structures and options for launching your new business, as well as guide you through the possible financing options. Our team can further assist with understanding and learning the business plan or business model, as well as the financial model and projections.

If you are a Seller

Your Advisor can help you understand the steps, timing, and expectations of the Buyer. An Alaska SBDC Advisor can provide information on how to position your business for sale and maximize the value of the business up to 24 months before you plan to market the business for sale. An Advisor can further explain the process and make sure you have or can prepare the typical information required in the due diligence process, review and explain your financial statements and tax returns from a managerial accounting perspective.
