Providing High-Quality and Accessible Health Care
With a passion for urgent care and a vision to provide an alternative to the emergency room, Jeoff Lanfear FNP-C partnered with the Alaska SBDC to open the first urgent care center on the Kenai Peninsula in 2017. At the time, patients in need of prompt medical attention had only two choices: Wait days or even weeks for their primary care provider or pay thousands for an unnecessary emergency room visit.
Determined to change this local pattern of care, Jeoff launched Urgent Care of Soldotna (UCOS) with a business partner. He continued to drive the urgent care market and assumed sole ownership in 2019. His exceptional team quickly became a trusted resource for the community and expanded in 2023 to its prominent location beside Walgreens in the heart of Soldotna.
Urgent Care of Soldotna delivers fast, professional, and compassionate care when it matters most. The clinic offers walk-in services for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, from sprains and fractures to infections and flu. With an on-site CLIA waived lab and a digital x-ray, patients receive timely diagnoses and treatment in one convenient location. Centrally located and staffed with skilled, friendly medical providers, UCOS ensures that families across the Kenai Peninsula can access quality healthcare close to home.
From the beginning, Jeoff and his team worked with Cliff Cochran at the Soldotna SBDC to ensure a seamless launch and successful growth path. Cliff helped assess the feasibility of opening the clinic, using proprietary industry data to guide decision-making, and then collaborated with Jeoff to create financial projections and a business plan that secured financing to open the clinic. Impressed by Jeoff’s efforts at the time, Cliff remarked, “I expect they’ll grow to become one of the more successful medical practices in Soldotna.”
Something that was not included in the business plan was a global pandemic, but that’s where Jeoff and his team at UCOS found themselves in 2020. The clinic was able to rapidly adapt and quickly became one of the safest and most trusted COVID-19 testing sites on the Kenai Peninsula. “This was the moment when Urgent Care of Soldotna really put themselves on the map as a leader in healthcare,” Cliff noted. “The way Jeoff and his team managed the COVID-19 pandemic was exemplary. They continually shifted to provide care as the pandemic morphed and put themselves in front to provide critical testing services for our community. Urgent Care of Soldotna remains one of the most impactful businesses I’ve had the privilege to help launch.”
Outgrowing their location, Jeoff once again turned to Cliff for guidance on expansion. When the perfect new location became available, Jeoff acted quickly, and with SBDC support, UCOS opened its state-of-the-art clinic at the busiest intersection in Soldotna. While other urgent care facilities have since opened in the area, none have matched the consistency, accessibility, and community trust established by Urgent Care of Soldotna.
Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Jeoff shared, “The assistance we received from the Alaska SBDC was critical to the start and growth of our urgent care center. I’m very satisfied with the support provided by the SBDC and would highly recommend others to start with them.”
Urgent Care of Soldotna has continued its growth to provide exceptional medical care. They now partner with Soldotna Family Practice and Advantage Physical Therapy to ensure medical care is seamless after an urgent care visit.
