The Iceberg Inn

Where Ice and Eco-luxury Converge

Nestled on the edge of a glacial lagoon near Bear Glacier and accessible only by helicopter, The Iceberg Inn offers a one-of-a-kind Alaskan wilderness experience. Founded by Kat Georgia and Mike Culver, this seasonal retreat combines adventure, tranquility, and environmental stewardship.

As Kat says, “There’s no road noise, no cell service—just silence, ice, and wild beauty. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s an immersive experience in one of Alaska’s most awe-inspiring settings.” The business was born from a dream shaped by community curiosity and a deep reverence for Alaska’s natural beauty.

Kat and Mike had a clear vision: to create a boutique experience that would allow guests to fully immerse themselves in the stunning, icy landscape of Bear Glacier. However, the unique nature of their remote location and the logistical complexities of running a seasonal, eco-conscious operation presented a daunting learning curve. From forming a multi-member LLC, financing a remote build, and regulatory compliance, the Alaska SBDC was there to help.

With guidance from Seward Business Advisor KellyAnn Cavaretta, Kat and Mike navigated the startup process clearly and confidently. “KellyAnn was amazing—she guided us through every step of starting our business and clearly outlined what needed to happen next,” Kat shared. “Her support made the process feel manageable and achievable.”

Through their work with the SBDC, the founders were able to focus on fine-tuning their operations, building strong partnerships, and developing sustainable systems that reflected their values and goals. The Iceberg Inn, launched in summer 2025, operates as a seasonal destination offering personalized, small-scale stays that make the most of the pristine setting. From a cozy cedar sauna to off-grid solar power, every detail is designed to welcome guests without compromising the integrity of the environment.

Guests arrive via Marathon Helicopters, the business’s sister company, and this season brings exciting new collaborations, most notably with Liquid Adventures, to provide guided kayaking experiences directly from the inn. Looking ahead, Kat and Mike are eager to partner with researchers and the National Park Service to support data collection efforts that can help protect this rapidly evolving landscape.

With the support of the Alaska SBDC, The Iceberg Inn vision has grown from a dream into a platform for meaningful adventure, education, and conservation. What started as a bold idea is now an extraordinary destination where guests connect with Alaska’s wild beauty in a deeply personal way. By blending hospitality, adventure, and sustainability, Kat and Mike are redefining what it means to stay in the Last Frontier.
