Duke’s Transmission Automotive & Tire Repair is a well-known repair shop in Kenai with a commitment to quality service at honest prices. Owner Duke Hardcastle is a graduate of Texas A&M and an ASE certified master auto tech with twenty eight years of experience. Hardcastle first approached the Alaska Small Business Development Center on the Kenai Peninsula in March 
2010 before opening his shop. He asked Bryan Zak to look over his business plan so that it would be ready to bring to an Angel Investor who had already shown interest in Hardcastle’s idea. Zak worked with Hardcastle to continually revise the business plan so that ultimately he was able to fully fund his endeavor.
When the shop opened in December of 2010 Hardcastle experienced immediate success with sales that exceeded his projections and a shop running at full capacity more often than not.
Since the opening, Zak and Hardcastle have met continually to discuss the ongoing operations of the business and to rework the financial projections based on the real results Duke’s Transmission is experiencing. Together, they were able to determine that the high rate of success the shop has experience was largely due to the perfect location and the excellent customer service Hardcastle and his employees give every day. Hardcastle has increased his staff since opening but is working on expanding slowly so that he will be able to maintain the high level of customer service his business is known for.
