I’m nearing the end of my first month as Alaska SBDC State Director. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to meet with our team, connect with partners, and start hearing directly from business owners across Alaska. It’s been a great reminder of just how resourceful and determined Alaska’s business owners are.
Running a business in Alaska isn’t easy. Businesses across the state are navigating high costs, workforce shortages, shipping and supply chain challenges, and the realities of operating in remote communities. At the same time, those challenges have helped create a business community that knows how to adapt and solve problems.
This month’s newsletter focuses on exporting, an area where there is real opportunity for Alaska businesses. From seafood and tourism to manufacturing and professional services, Alaska businesses have something valuable to offer. Alaskans know how to operate in challenging environments, build practical solutions, and create products and services people need. Reaching markets outside Alaska can take extra effort, but there is real opportunity for businesses willing to take that next step, along with resources and support to help make it happen.
One of the things I’m most excited about in this role is the opportunity to work alongside the incredible Alaska SBDC team as we support entrepreneurs and small business owners across the state as they take the next step. Whether someone is just getting started, looking to grow, or thinking about exporting to a new market, SBDC plays an important role in helping businesses move forward.
I’m honored to join the Alaska SBDC team and look forward to getting to know more of you in the months ahead.
