April Update from the Alaska SBDC State Director

April 16, 2026

As I mentioned in March, spring in Alaska doesn’t arrive all at once…it comes in stops and starts. Longer days, melting snow, and yes…a whole lot of mud, are all signs that things are moving again. For many Alaska businesses, this is the time to reset, refocus, and get ready for the busy summer season ahead. That might mean cleaning up operations, tightening processes, or finding ways to work a little smarter before things pick up.

This month, we’re highlighting how technology is becoming part of that reset, from practical AI tools that save time to simple cybersecurity steps that help protect what you’ve built. These aren’t tools for the future, they’re being used by Alaska businesses right now. You’ll find more in this month’s featured article, along with resources to help you take the next step in a way that makes sense for your business.

As we look ahead, we’re already starting to plan for next year’s Alaska SBDC Summit, and we’d really value your input. If you have a few minutes, please take the short survey below. Your feedback helps shape the topics, speakers, and overall experience, and ensures the Summit continues to be worth your time.

And finally, as communities gear up for a busy summer, we’re continuing to grow our team. We’re currently hiring a Business Advisor in the Mat-Su, the fastest-growing region in the state, where demand for small business support continues to rise. If you, or someone you know, might be a good fit, you can learn more and apply here.

As always, thank you for taking a moment to read this month’s newsletter and for being part of the work supporting Alaska’s small business community.
