February Update from the Alaska SBDC Executive Director

February 15, 2024

It’s only halfway through February, and the Alaska SBDC is already going strong in 2024! We’ve got new programs, new funding, new events, new staff, and new technology to share with you this month, with even more exciting news coming this Spring!

First and foremost, I want to remind you to mark your calendars for the upcoming SBDC Summit: Exploring Artificial Intelligence, Alaska’s first-ever AI conference.

On March 4th at the Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage, this conference will dive into the realm of AI technology and its impact on various aspects of our businesses, government, and society. We’d like to encourage you to register soon, as space is limited, and tickets are going fast!

Stay tuned for updates on guest speakers and exciting sessions that will shape the future of AI in Alaska! Attendees are also invited to swing by our warming spot at the Out North Theater in downtown Anchorage, as we celebrate the ceremonial start of the Iditarod on March 2nd!

This month, BuyAlaska reminds us that Love is Local, and by buying Alaska-made products and services, we can significantly impact our economy and strengthen the fabric of our communities. Let’s show our love for local businesses this February and year round! If you haven’t checked out the BuyAlaska directory of local businesses, you’re missing out on one of the best buy local resources in the state!

For those of you who have businesses that buy in bulk, I am happy to share in the excitement of the Costco Business Center grand opening in Anchorage. This new addition to Alaska’s business landscape will provide entrepreneurs with greater access to wholesale products and services, allowing for increased efficiency and growth. We encourage you to explore the Costco Business Center’s delivery opportunities and take advantage of its benefits to your business!

Lastly, you’ll hear us talk about the annual Alaska SBDC Small Business Survey in March, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the findings with you all! We have many more exciting programs, tools, and services planned for this year, but I’ll save those announcements for another day. As always, the Alaska SBDC team is here to support you on your journey to starting, growing, or innovating your business, no matter where you are in the state.
