The State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) is a federally-funded program intended to attract lenders & investors to help with funding businesses that can’t get conventional business loans from banks & lending institutions.
The AK SBDC is the administrative lead on the program for Alaska, and will deploy the funding to lenders and investment funds.

Join us on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Mat-Su Small Business Development Center (Mat-Su SBDC) Office in Wasilla for “From Blueprint to Build-Out: Navigating Loans for Construction & Tenant Improvements – Wasilla” presented by Carrie Callaway Cardy, VP, Senior SBA Relationship Manager at KeyBank, and Garet Plantz, Small Business Relationship Manager at KeyBank. This workshop is designed for business owners and start-ups (not residential projects, though) and will walk participants through the key stages of financing, including an overview of different loan options available for these types of projects.
Carrie and Garet will show you how to prepare for and secure financing, what lenders look for during approval, how contractor payments and draw schedules typically work, what to expect at loan closing, and how a construction loan converts into a long-term loan.
