Where in the World Was the SBDC Executive Director? In May, Juneau!

June 2, 2023

If you were walking around Juneau last month, you may have run into our Executive Director, Jon Bittner, wandering around town with a camera crew. They filmed a segment about BuyAlaska and the importance of buying local that will be played on cruise ships that visit Southeast Alaska.

A few of the local businesses they visited included Alaska Knifeworks, Devil’s Club Brewery, and SeaAlaska Heritage Store. Furthermore, the crew was able to film Alaska Native art, learn how to use an ulu, see locally made crafts, and sampled some of the amazing food and drink that the Capital City has to offer.

Onboard Media produced the compelling TV segment for a travel show to be shown onboard Carnival and Celebrity cruise lines. The segment showcases the diverse range of Alaska’s local businesses, highlighting their unique offerings and emphasizing the importance of visitors buying from locally owned establishments when exploring port communities. Onboard Media’s production not only informs but also serves as a powerful reminder for travelers to embrace the true essence of Alaska and make a positive impact on the communities they visit during their cruise. It encourages viewers to engage with the rich local culture, supporting the economy and fostering meaningful connections along the way.

While he had a lot of fun showing the crew from the Lower-48 around town, Jon won’t be leaving the Alaska SBDC for Hollywood anytime soon.
