Alaska Small Business Development Center

Commercialize This, Commercialize That!

August 2, 2019

Dear Entrepreneurs,

Have heard the news? The Alaska Small Business Development Center (Alaska SBDC) now houses the TREND program (Technology Research and Development Center of Alaska). TREND’s primary mission is to assist Alaska’s small businesses and entrepreneurs with commercializing their scalable technology.

TREND and the Alaska SBDC has also teamed up with like-minded organizations and funding sources in Alaska’s entrepreneurial community to leverage the available resources so that the best technologies get the support they need to win Federal Development Grants. With our teammates at UAF’s incubator Center ICE, companies will have an opportunity to secure up to $40,000 in grants, which is funding without a debt or equity component, such as:

  • Center ICE still has $2500 travel/conference grant awards for customer discovery work through the Alaska Foundational i-Corps program – Next cohort August 17, 2019 – apply NOW here

  • Center ICE Seed fund offers up to $25,000 for further development and completing the i-Corps and TREND programs would be a great precursor. Rolling applications.

TREND provides technical assistance to Alaska’s entrepreneurs so they can compete and win federal research grants. TREND will offer proposal writing instructions and technical assistance to develop plans to commercialize certain technologies.

This year, TREND will award SBIR Phase 0 funding of up to $10,000 in cash to FOUR (4) winning entries.

Entries are due by August 15, 2019, and we would like to invite you to attend a preliminary informational meeting on SBIR/STTR Phase 0 grants on August 5th at 11:00am. The meeting will be held at SBDC offices at 1901 Bragaw Street, Suite 199 in Anchorage and you can attend in person or by webinar.

The program is statewide and TREND will provide the information and process necessary by webinar if you are unable to attend in person. Simply use the following link to register and log-in to our webinar:

This funding opportunity is uniquely beneficial for companies and founders who are at the initial stages of commercializing technology. The Entry Form is simple and can be found on the TREND website ( along with terms and other details.  All information submitted will be kept confidential.

TREND will evaluate and will announce awards on or before September 16, 2019. We look forward to your participation via webinar or in person.
