2018 Alaska Small Business Survey Report

February 7, 2019

Almost 400 businesses responded to our 2nd annual survey, allowing us to capture one of the most comprehensive snapshots of Alaska’s small business community available.

“This is encouraging news for anyone interested in the State’s economic future… the general outlook is positive. Businesses are focusing on expanding, hiring new employees and accessing new markets.”– Jon Bittner, Alaska SBDC Executive Director

The Alaska SBDC is proud to release the second Alaska Small Business Survey! This report is driven by nearly 400 businesses across the state responding to 40 questions ranging from their financial health, employment plans, barriers to success and thoughts on the biggest opportunities for Alaska’s economic future.

Some of the highlights of this years report include an increasing optimism about businesses future revenues, increasing success in securing new funding for expanding markets, new equipment and operations and a desire to hire more employees to address the increasing workload. Some of the barriers holding businesses back include a significant difficulty in finding qualified employees and marketing their products to areas outside Alaska and the US.

Overall, this report shows a picture of a recovering economy and a business community that is ready willing and able to take advantage of the new opportunities that that economy represents. We hope that you look this report over and join us in finding ways to celebrate and support Alaska’s small business community.
