Offering authentically styled and influenced dishes of Thailand in Wasilla since 2002, Mekong Thai Cuisine has earned a dedicated local following. Mekong Thai Cuisine was the vision of Gary Vilayvong who grew up on the Mekong river before moving to Alaska in the 1980s. With cooking at the heart of Gary’s talent and passion, he became a chef and saved up money to open Mekong Thai Cuisine with his wife, Moune.
With Gary’s passing in 2016, his son, Kenny, has worked to maintain the vision and authenticity of Mekong Thai Cuisine. Today, Moune can regularly be seen working as the main chef in the kitchen; busy chopping fresh vegetables and preparing a hot plate for a happy guest while Kenny focuses on running and operating the restaurant behind the scenes.
