Frosty Feet Running Company: Reaching the Finish Line in Running and Business
Frosty Feet Running Company is the only full-service and specialized walking and running shoe store in Fairbanks. Owner Stacy Fisk is an ultra-marathon runner which served her well in the start-up process for her business during a global pandemic.
With several years of running a shoe department, serving as the Director for both the Equinox Marathon and HooDoo Half Marathon, and assisting with additional running events. Fisk was well-poised to start her own running shoe store. Working with the Alaska Small Business Development Center (Alaska SBDC) in Fairbanks allowed Fisk to fine-tune the financial projections and business plan needed to apply for a loan to make her dream a reality. Thanks to the support of Mt. McKinley Savings Bank, she was able to do just that.
The following post-running season provided a good time to locate the perfect location for Frosty Feet Running Company. By January 2020 the lease was signed and Fisk expected to open the doors to excited customers in March. That same month, the novel coronavirus disrupted the Alaskan economy and daily life as businesses closed instead. During that time, Fisk continued to prepare for her opening and following Alaska moving to Reopening Phases 3 and 4. Frosty Feet Running Company enjoyed its official grand opening on June 3, 2020, in celebration of Global Running Day.
Thanks to community support and a shared love of running, Frosty Feet Running Company is off to a great start as Fisk perfects her operations and offers the right shoe at competitive prices. As a full service running store, Frosty Feet Running Company has a treadmill in the shop and a video camera that allows Fisk to provide individual gait analysis for customers and specific recommendations for the best shoe and fit.
Her Alaska SBDC business advisor and Fairbanks Center Director shared, “It was a pleasure working with Stacy from the loan process through the delayed opening of her store. Her determination and hard work to launch a first-class running store for Fairbank’s runners, walkers, and other athletes has been a journey with the unexpected pandemic, but Stacy has proven that she knows how to get to the finish line of a marathon in running and business.”
