Drool Central: A Mum & Pup Barkery
If you have been to the South Anchorage Farmer’s Market in the summertime or stopped into various maker markets and festivals in Anchorage, you’ve seen the wagging tails and happy smiles at the end of the leash over at Drool Central.
Inspired by caring for her own dog, owner Daisy Nicolas handcrafts natural canine treats and meals using human-grade wild Alaskan fish, Alaska-grown barley, and vegetables to best nourish your pet.
Drool Central is a Made in Alaska, direct-source wild Alaska salmon, and cod organic dog treat “barkery.” Treats are made without artificial colorings, preservatives, seasonings, flavorings, soy, wheat, and corn. From dog-friendly birthday cakes, fish chips, and training treats, Drool Central has something delicious and healthy for the four-legged friend in your life. Though the fresh-baked and fresh-frozen products are not recommended for shipping due to their shelf life, Drool Central does offer several dehydrated options that are perfect for the trek to your furry friend.
When asked what her key takeaway is (so far) as a business owner, Daisy shared, “I learned that comparing my limited resources and support against other businesses is unrealistic and discouraging. Though my sales are increasing every year, I have to learn to champion my small progress and plot more for small successes.” This year alone, Drool Central’s sales have increased by three times! She further shared, “I also thank Alex Salov (with the Alaska SBDC) for his enthusiasm to support my business. He is a savior in terms of breathing more possibilities for my success.”
What is next? Daisy is working on growing the Drool Central online shop and taking her barkery mobile!
