Bustin’ Out Boutique, a lingerie and maternity wear store, was established in 2014 by Hollis Kitchin and Lindsey Burnet. Kitchin had been working on her business idea for a lingerie shop when she partnered with Burnet who had noticed the lack of maternity options for women in Juneau during her pregnancy. Both Hollis and Burnet believe women should feel comfortable and supported in anything they wear, no matter what stage of life they are in. The community has responded immediately to their offerings at Bustin’ Out Boutique- with the business growing into a larger space 7 months ahead of schedule to keep up with demand.
Kitchin and Burnet first came to the Alaska Small Business Development Center in an effort to hash out the business plan and utilize it as a roadmap for their startup and for potential investors. Both women had been working on their ideas for several years on their own and were looking to combine them into a cohesive, unified business offering that would appeal to their target markets.
“Initially the SBDC gave us the tools needed to start our business but most importantly they gave us the confidence, through extensive work on business and financial models, to follow through and pursue our dreams,” said Hollis.
“We would like to give a special thanks to Ian Grant for all his hard work and dedication to making our business succeed and most especially to the women of Juneau who have embraced our business with delight and fervor. We hope to support you for many years to come!”
Bustin’ Out Boutique is open Monday through Saturday and is located at the historic Senate Building in downtown Juneau. Learn more about their business by visiting their website or their Facebook page.
