Why Inclusive Vision is Essential for Entrepreneurial Success

June 1, 2024

In today’s dynamic business landscape, inclusivity is no longer a “nice to have” – it’s a fundamental driver of innovation and economic growth. Here at the Alaska SBDC, we’re committed to empowering a diverse range of entrepreneurs in 2024 and beyond. We believe that by fostering an inclusive environment, we can unlock the full potential of Alaska’s small business community.

Imagine the possibilities when a room full of entrepreneurs brings together unique experiences, backgrounds, and ideas. This diversity of thought is essential for generating creative solutions, identifying new market opportunities, and building businesses that truly resonate with our communities. That’s the power of inclusive vision.

What We Do to Support You
The Alaska SBDC offers comprehensive resources and programs designed to level the playing field for all entrepreneurs. Here’s how we ensure inclusivity in everything we do:

  • Client-Centric Advising: We create a welcoming space where every entrepreneur feels comfortable seeking guidance. Our advisors annually undergo university training on cultural competency and implicit bias to understand better and address all needs. Through university and local partnerships, we provide interpreter and translator services to remove language and information barriers.
  • SBDC Workshops: We’re continuously expanding our workshop library to cover relevant topics like financing, marketing, and legal structures. We incorporate diverse voices in workshop development and ensure accessibility through clear communication, online options, and closed captioning.
  • Alaska SSBCI: This SBDC program prioritizes creating an inclusive and fair business environment for a diverse Alaskan economy by focusing on statewide initiatives for socially & Economically Disadvantaged Individuals (SEDI) and Very Small Businesses (VSB).
  • BuyAlaska: Search for and support LGBTQ+, Alaska Native, BIPOC, and veteran-owned businesses statewide!
  • Ongoing Evaluation and Improvement: We regularly assess our tools and programs to ensure they meet the evolving needs of our diverse statewide audience. This allows us to improve and address potential gaps in our support system.

We’re also proud to partner with and champion organizations across Alaska that support inclusivity. Working together, we can create a more equitable and thriving business ecosystem for everyone:

At the Alaska SBDC, we believe that a diverse and inclusive business community is the cornerstone of a thriving Alaskan economy. Our dedicated team stands ready to support entrepreneurs from all walks of life in achieving their business goals.
