In the town of Valdez, known for its role in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and tourism sector, Ruth Wolfe, Rural Business Advisor of the Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC), engaged with the local business community through a series of impactful events.
On May 13th, the Valdez Women in Business Meetup at the Stampmill provided a platform for local women entrepreneurs to connect and learn about the resources available through the SBDC. Ruth shared information and insights into how the SBDC could bolster their businesses, setting the stage for ongoing engagement.
The following day at the Civic Center, the Alaska SBDC hosted an event and roundtable discussion in collaboration with Steven Brown, District Director, and Ross Macarty, Outreach and Marketing Specialist of the Small Business Administration (SBA) Alaska District Office.
This session covered essential topics such as SBA lending, PPP loan forgiveness, and the SCORE mentoring program. The discussion also highlighted new opportunities stemming from cruise line contracts, emphasizing the economic impact of tourism on Valdez’s development across various sectors, including housing, schools, and small businesses.
Among the notable attendees was Celeste Addison, a local artist and co-owner of The Art Co-Op. Celeste, known for her commitment to Valdez’s cultural and economic enrichment, shared her artistic vision and plans for the community’s future with Ruth.
Ruth’s visit to Valdez strengthened ties with existing clients and showcased the SBDC’s commitment to economic growth and supporting local businesses in Alaska. The sunny weather and majestic mountain backdrops made the trip as picturesque as it was productive.
The SBDC continues to offer invaluable support to Alaska’s entrepreneurs through no-cost business coaching, educational workshops, and various resources for business launch, growth, and recovery.
As Valdez navigates economic challenges and opportunities, the SBDC’s role remains crucial in guiding and empowering its business community.
