The State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) is a federally-funded program intended to attract lenders & investors to help with funding businesses that can’t get conventional business loans from banks & lending institutions.
The AK SBDC is the administrative lead on the program for Alaska, and will deploy the funding to lenders and investment funds.

Join us in Wasilla at the Mat-Su Small Business Development Center (SBDC) on Tues., Oct. 24th, 2023 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am for a special opportunity to learn about “Financing Your Business: Lending Resources & Strategies for Success” from KeyBank’s Vice President & Senior SBA Relationship Manager, Carrie Callaway Cardy.
Whether you are a start-up business, a new business owner, or a seasoned business owner in Alaska, understanding what financing options are available to you is important for the success of your business. During “Financing Your Business: Lending Resources & Strategies for Success,” Carrie will discuss a variety of financing options available to local business owners.
During this presentation, you will learn:
– The various types of Small Business Administration (SBA) and conventional loan options available to small business owners in Alaska;
– Where to find professional assistance with business growth and expansion;
– Resources available for assistance in preparing financial projections;
– Where to find guidance on positioning your overall business when preparing to request funding; and
– How to maximize funding once the capital infusion is received.
If you would like to arrive early for this presentation, our Mat-Su Center Director, Misty O’Connor, will be holding an Open House starting at 9:00 am. After the “Financing Your Business” presentation, there will also be a 30-minute Networking opportunity where you can talk with the presenter and Mat-Su SBDC staff.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Carrie Callaway Cardy, VP, Sr SBA Relationship Manager, KeyBank – Carrie Callaway Cardy has over 18 years experience in commercial banking, first at Wells Fargo for 13 years, and now with KeyBank for the past five years. Carrie specializes in business acquisitions, expansions, start-ups, and owner-occupied real estate. Carrier has been responsible for assisting SBDC clients in receiving over 10 million in financing in 2023 alone. With 18 years in banking, Carrie is a seasoned and consistent lender that is committed to financing in all economic cycles.
Carrie states, “My approach is to make the loan process more customer centric than the competition, providing fast answers and advice based on years of dedicated SBA lending experience. I focus on making a government loan program easier for small business owners to navigate. Since most transactions are deadline specific, I pay close attention to contract dates and the importance of meeting those deadlines. My goal is to be a key advisor to decision makers in these complex transactions.” Carrie also has a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota in Public Policy Analysis, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Business from The American International University in London.
