Sustainable Design Group, LLC (SDG) is a Palmer based design firm that has offered full landscape architecture and land planning services, specializing in environmental planning, site development and sustainable design since 2009.
Between the two of them, owners Luanne Urfer and Eric Morey have a wealth of experience and knowledge in developing Alaska’s communities while preserving the natural beauty and resources it offers. Urfer has over 34 years of experience in natural resource planning and landscape architecture while Morey has managed many local Alaskan projects with a background in design, environmental planning, concept development, site design, construction and drawings, estimates and construction administration.
As a women-owned and veteran-owned business, SDG had worked with the AKSBDC program Alaska PTAC on government contracting questions for a while before meeting with Julie Nolen in the AKSBDC office in Mat-Su Region. About one year into their business, Urfer and Morey had experienced growth and were now looking for ways to maximize efficiency and better market the business. Nolen worked with the owners to define their target market using the SBDCNet research tool and build a business plan that would help them decide where their business was headed and how it would get there!
With over five years in business under their belt, Urfer and Morey still meet with Nolen when they have questions. They have built up the business by utilizing international student interns to scale their services and have even launched a new business, The Valley Annex.
“With our anniversary rapidly approaching and being able to buy a building instead of rent, having a full plate of projects supported by our expanding staff, we are excited to be going into the new year” said Urfer, “We could not have done it without you”!
