Juneau firefighter, Marc Ormsby, first came in to the Alaska Small Business Development Center in March 2013 looking to bring his idea for an outside smoker & barbeque food spot to life. Ormsby had owned a food cart in downtown Juneau that sold reindeer hot dogs, Buffalo bratwurst, reindeer sausage and home made corn dogs in 2006. Marc and his wife Jesie now want a more permanent location where they could grow their business once Marc retired from the force. Their plan for their menu will be Pulled Pork, Pork spare ribs, bbq chicken, Beef brisket with sides of cole slaw, mac salad, bbq beans and cowbow beans and specials each week.
Ian Grant assisted the Ormsby’s with the financial projections for the new venture in order to determine the pricing for the products. They also worked together on the business plan narrative and used it to successfully obtain a business loan and bring Fatmo’s BBQ to life.
“With the help of Juneau’s SBDC we were able to develop a professional plan we could use to grow our business in securing financing” said Ormsby, “Our plan is to continue to use the SBDC services in order to grow our business in the future”.
