Alaska Small Business Development Center

Celestial Sweets Boutique

Liz Madsen came in to the Alaska Small Business Development Center in Anchorage after two years in business as Celestial Sweets Boutique. Madsen worked out of several industrial kitchens over the first few years as she learned the ins and outs of running her own business, perfected her recipes and amassed a large client base.  Now she was ready to invest in growing into a physical locatilogoon and knew the SBDC could help her plan for this growth effectively.

Madsen met with Anchorage Director Lynn Klassert and utilized the SBDC’s market research and financial projection tools to determine not only that she could afford to open the brick and mortar location, but also that there would be enough of a customer base to support the business long-term.

“The SBDC helped me with bringing my business goals to fruition by giving me direction” said Madsen, “I wrote a business plan but didn’t understand why the numbers didn’t add up. Lynn was an amazing source of information with his own business experience and banking background. The connections to other vendors and business sources has been very valuable to my business venture!”

CSB Picture CroppedMadsen and her business partners put their business plan to good use by identifying an unfulfilled need in the Anchorage boutique dessert market. Celestial Sweets Boutique is proud to be the only dessert boutique shop open late at night to satisfy Anchorage’s sweet tooth. They make wedding and custom cakes, plated desserts, breakfast pastries and much more.  Additionally, they partner with other Alaskan small businesses to provide their patrons with high-quality beverages from Café del Mundo and Summit Spice and Tea. Stop by Celestial Sweets Boutique at 2601 Spenard Road in Anchorage with your family and friends for an enjoyable night out or visit their website to view their beautiful creations and learn more about what they can make for your special occasion!
