Energizing the Talkeetna Workforce: Brown Bear Espresso
As a flourishing business, Brown Bear Espresso is not only keeping the Talkeetna community caffeinated, but adding vital jobs to the local economy. With unique daily specials on coffee and ice cream, it’s easy to see why the coffee hut has become a popular place for customers to get their caffeine fix or satisfy a sweet tooth.
When manager Dawn Jones realized it was time to grow, she visited the Alaska Small Business Development Center in Wasilla. She worked with Assistant State Director Julie Nolen on her plan to move locations and expand the operating hours and menu. Dawn and Julie looked at the financial implications of increasing Brown Bear’s capacity and strategized on the best way to do so.
“Our company has been using the services of the SBDC for a several years. Due to SBDC services we as a small company were able to add jobs that would not have happened without their direct help and influence,” said Dawn. “We found their advice and counsel superior and valuable with an understanding of the unique business situations found only in Alaska”.
Now that the new location has opened, Dawn is working with Julie on ways to increase awareness for the business.
You can visit Brown Bear Espresso on the corner of Parks Highway and Talkeetna Spur Road and follow them on Facebook to see the drinks of the day!
