Engaging Childcare and Education

Kerrie Spain and some model-released kids from Bright Minds in Wasilla

As a parent, it can be difficult to trust any business with your child’s welfare and education, especially during those first few years. Bright Minds Learning Center owner, Kerrie Spain, took this sentiment to heart and worked tirelessly to create an environment and learning curriculum that would let parents feel good about dropping off their children with her staff. Her “clients” enjoy unique learning experiences like visits from the local Fire Department to discuss fire safety, and native integration classes where they learn about Alaska Native culture. Of course there’s plenty of fun to be had as well through arts and crafts, summer camp fun, and unique games like balloon tennis that keep the kids excited and engaged.

Bright Minds Learning Center has provided Wasilla with quality childcare and and early childhood education services for several years. Always in high demand, Kerrie recently decided to upgrade their facilities to provide a better location for their families. As she began to develop the financial projections for the project, she approached Julie Nolen at the Alaska Small Business Development Center. Julie was able to help her through the process of preparing a loan packet and approaching the right Lender that could help her grow her already thriving business.

“Working with the SBDC has been a phenomenal resource for my business. Julie has been so helpful on a variety of topics including business planning and financial issues,” said  Kerrie. “The recommendations and assistance Julie provided in preparing my business plan helped me to analyze my competition, my strengths and my weaknesses to best position my company. Julie was always available when I needed her via email, phone, or in person. I cannot thank the SBDC enough for everything they have done for Bright Minds Learning Center; I truly don’t know how I would have done it without their help”.
