Arctic Rivers Guide & Booking Service

Brought to Alaska as a traveling dentist, James P. “Jake” Jacobson began guiding in 1967, spending the next years accruing 10,000 hours in single-engine Bush planes, traveling, commercial fishing, and obtaining a 100 Ton Mariner’s Captain license.

In 1972, Jacobson began offering high-quality guided hunts on his property 118 miles north of Kotzebue that now holds his solar-powered, two-story lodge, runway, and outbuildings. As guiding allows him to spend more time outdoors and doing his favorite things, he was proud to have earned a Master Guide license in 1984 (#54).

Since 1984, Jacobson’s guest hunters have received 65 awards for first, second, and third-place trophies in the annual Alaska Professional Hunters Association (APHA) and Safari Club International Big Three statewide competition. Of all the guiding outfits in Alaska, this is the highest number of awards per number of guests in the state.

Offering a comfortable and remote lodge situated in an ideal hunting area, Arctic Rivers Guide & Booking Service can comfortably accommodate a small number of guests, usually, 2-3 per booking period. This allows for an exceptional hunting experience that often has animals taken within one mile or less from the lodge. Arctic Rivers Guide & Booking Service has taken top-3 ranked Grizzly, black bear, Dall ram, caribou, moose, wolf, and Sitka Blacktail deer. Of these, 32 of the outstanding animals were caribou, 7 were grizzlies, and 4 were wolves.

Not one to be bored, Jacobson has written down his experiences and stories, publishing several books that can be found on Amazon. Signed copies can be ordered directly from Jacobson as well.

In navigating the effects of COVID-19 in 2020, Jacobson worked with Jennifer Adams, Rural Program Director with the Alaska Small Business Development Center (Alaska SBDC) on financials and funding opportunities to ensure Arctic Rivers Guide & Booking Service would be able to provide high quality and memorable guided tours in the years to come.

For your hunt planning needs, Arctic Rivers Guide & Booking Service is now booking guest hunters for August 19-30, 2021, August 30-September 10, 2021, and September 10-21, 2021.
