Alaska Boathouse

Kathleen Glines first approached the Alaska Small Business Development Center in Wasilla in 2007 as the owner of Alaska Sunset View Resort but worked with Julie Nolen most extensively during the renovation of one of the buildings from the resort into The Alaska Boathouse Restaurant. Before the opening, Nolen assisted Glines in the different ways to structure the business and reviewed her business plan. Together they specifically worked on the financial projections in order to determine how much the renovations would cost and if they would need to find financing for the venture.Kathleen Glines of The Boathouse in Big Lake.

After the launch, Nolen and Glines continued to meet to discuss daily operations, employee management, financing options, and marketing ideas. Operating the restaurant presented Glines with many new challenges she had not faced with the resort and Nolen was able to offer her experience in the field. Glines also attended Profit Mastery in order to better understand the financials of her businesses.

“I have worked with Julie for several years with both of my businesses, the Alaska Sunset View Resort and the Alaska Boathouse Restaurant.” said Glines, “whenever I need help, she is always there to offer good suggestions and a professional point of view. The Profit Mastery course I took at the SBDC was wonderful. And, the one on one counseling is always appreciated”.

The Alaska Boathouse Restaurant has quickly become a destination for locals and is a great addition to the Alaska Sunset View Resort. You can find their restaurant online at http://thealaskaboathouse.com/ or visit them for a meal Wednesday through Sunday at 5268 S. Big Lake Road.
