Tami’s Tikes License Child Care

tamiTami Bowman has Tami Tikes Child Care out of her home since 2007.  As the need for quality daycare in Juneau continues to be a concern, Tami understands the need for a safe, caring, fun environment.  With an Approved Provider license Tami’s goal was to expand her daycare business through additional room additions and outside play areas.  Once this expansion was in place, Tami would be able obtain a Group Home license which allows for the care of up to 12 children.   To accomplish this, Tami needed financing and a plan.

With her idea and goals in mind, Tami approached the AKSBDC, Southeast.  She needed assistance writing a business plan and obtaining funding.  The Southeast Business Advisor guided Tami through the steps to creating a business plan and helping her identify reasonable financial projections for the expansion.  Once the business plan was in place, the Southeast business advisor determined the right SBA loan for her needs.  With her business plan and loan application in place, Tami approached Alaska Pacific Bank for an SBA Community Express Loan.  Due to her sound business plan, past experience and assistance from the AKSBDC, Southeast, Tami was approved for the loan.

Since then, Tami has created a larger playroom and the additional fencing needed to protect the children, and increased storage space.  She also obtained her  license for Group Home Status.  This new status has allowed her to serve 40% more children.
