Mountain Home Daycare Licensed Child Care

Blue Shibler has been a client with the AKSBDC, Southeast since 2004. She worked in Juneau’s Montessori program for seven years and has run her own business, Discovery Preschool, since 2005. With this experience andpicture1 knowledge, she recognized the lack of Early Childhood Development Juneau was a serious problem, and during legislative session, childcare is an even bigger challenge as families come from all over the state. She approached the center with ideas on how to relieve this problem in our community.

Since 2005, Blue has run a daycare out of her home. The AKSBDC, Southeast center guided her through writing a business plan, setting up an LLC and some marketing assistance. She attended several center seminars which helped her along the way. In August of 2008, Blue submitted a bid for a contract offered by the municipality of Juneau to start a large child day care facility. Our business counselor went over her business plan to fine tune it prior to her submitting the bid.

In December, 2008, the Alaska State Legislative Counsel, approved a deal to transform the old Scottish Rite temple into a childcare center. Blue responded to the RFP and won the bid. In March of 2009, she applied for a Community Express Loan through Alaska Pacific Bank for working capital.

In April of 2009, her loan was approved. She is now able to buy her supplies and equipment to open up the doors in her new building, late fall of 2009
