Michael Kamm has been in the shipping industry for many years and really loves what he does. Michael decided it was time to take his career one step further and start his own business. He felt he could offer superior customer service while increasing his personal financial security. Michael wasn’t sure where to begin and on the referral of his banker, he contacted the Small Business Development Center Great North Region.
The Regional Director for the Great North, Heather Heineken, helped Michael develop a business plan which included in-depth financial planning and identifying basic operational needs. Heather encouraged Michael to make sure his plan was sound before he made any final decisions.
Not only did Heather assist Michael with basic business planning but she helped him identify the right type of contract to secure his first customer. Through this review with Heather, Michael revised the contract to meet his needs. Michael was now ready to make the final commitment. After spending several meetings with Heather, Michael went to the financial institution and secured his loan, purchased his truck, and secured his first customer contract.
Michael stated “Thanks Heather, you’ve been the only way we could’ve done this whole thing”!
