Affirmations In The Key of Life,” owned and operated by Anchorage resident Shirley Mae Springer Staten, offers “Messages In Chocolate,” a uniquely sweet & special way to say, “you are everything you want to be.” Positive, life-affirming messages such as “You Are Beauty” and “You Are Enough” are beautifully molded using delicious chocolate, and each is then carefully packaged, ready for gift-giving.

Upon visiting the SBDC, the business counselor provided start-up and manufacturing guidance. Shirley received assistance in finding a vendor who can create custom packaging at a reasonable price while maintaining quality. The counselor demonstrated how to use break even
analysis to determine the price and quantity of products that must be sold for the business to be profitable. Shirley Mae’s chocolates are now available for purchase through local stores and will soon be available for purchase online.

Shirley’s inspiration for her works are drawn from her experiences throughout her own life journey, from her childhood in the Georgia cotton fields, to her success as an international performer. She has become a shining example of the power of positive thinking, perseverance, and a “keep movin’ forward” attitude.
